Botox

Botox injections were the most popular cosmetic treatment in 2003, after the FDA approval for cosmetic usage in 2002.

The usual procedure costing $400-$500, comprises injections given in the forehead, frown-lines, and outer eye area to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for both men and women.

Botox treatments block (paralyse) the nerve transmissions that cause facial muscles to contract. The wrinkles and crow's feet caused by repeated contractions thus smooth out and become less noticeable.

Botox is a safer, injectible form of botulism toxin, (Alistair MacLean's Satan Bug!) the same bacteria that causes food poisoning.

Plastic Surgery

When surgery is performed on the human body to improve and enhance the looks and appearance, it can be termed as plastic surgery. These range from face lifts, to nose jobs to breast enhancement. This also includes facial reconstruction, grafting, skin transplantation and more in its scope.

Cosmetic surgery refers to surgery that is limited to improving appearance, or cosmetics. Chemical peel, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, otoplasty, rhitidectomy, chin and cheek augmentation address the face.

Plastic or Cosmetic surgery is an expensive and painful affair. It is always an elective procedure and is not always risk-free.
